There are a bunch of kids from around the country who gathered here to build a fleet of parade floats/houseboats that they intend to ride down the Mississippi from here to St. Louis, performing for money along the way. I visited the beautifully chaotic hippie Huck Finn launching pad in Nordeast Mpls, just a couple of blocks from where I used to live, and gave them a little gift, a Serene Buddha Stone Face with an aloe plant in it, for the inevitable sunburn. Part of me longed to run away with the circus. At least a little concrete part of me gets to go. Read all about these merry pranksters, and be sure to watch the slide show:
