Did you catch the big Ballot Bowl '08 on CNN yesterday! It was fun and exciting to watch fluff pieces on the candidates! Plus, it's a horse race! We love horse races!
Maybe it's a good thing when the media "funs up" the election and engages more citizens in the process, but I also think that this is a deadly serious time in world history, and that boring and/or depressing issues like global climate change and peak oil issues and and the occupation of Iraq and health care reform and campaign finance reform and import tariff reform and federal debt levels... these are the important things to grill the candidates about, not where they grew up and what their mothers were like, and what their nicknames were in high school, blah, blah, blah. In other words, we shouldn't be electing our leaders for their infotainment value (i.e., George W. Bush, that plain-spoken West Texas cowboy everyone wanted to have a beer with back in 2000).
