This is what I went to the Franconia Sculpture Park to see, the Earthwork Amphitheater by Ali Della Bitta and Drew Goerlitz. I'd seen it before in my wanderings (Franconia is just a couple of miles from my Dad's place in Lindstrom; he considers it a loathesome field of rubbish that doesn't even merit a visit), but wanted to see it actually in use. Yesterday there was a "concert." I put that in quotes because it was a pretty modest affair, just a few acoustic singer-songwriter types playing through a little PA to a sparse audience. Charming, but a bit of a let down. I'd love to see this thing put through its paces, full band at night with a big sound system and a decent light show and lots of happy people strewn over the stones and grass and hummocks with their blankets and chairs and beers and marijuana cigarettes.
